米イーストマン音楽学校ピアノ科主任教授
アメリカ出身。イーストマン音楽学校にて学位、修士号を取得後 アーチストディプロマを授与。 ’６６年２２歳でヴァン・クライバーン国際ピアノコンクールにおいてソロ、 室内楽３部門で主要な賞を受賞。以後、アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、オーストラリア、 アジア各国でも演奏及びマスタークラスを行い、 国際的に広くその名を知られ、ソロ、室内楽をはじめとする３２枚の アルバムも録音されている。 日本では武生国際音楽祭に例年招聘され、指揮者小松長生とともに 日本フィル、名古屋フィルと共演、細川俊夫作品の初演や ヴァイオリニスト漆原朝子と録音演奏活動も行っている。 レパートリーはバロックから現代までと幅広い。 教授の演奏指導における特長は西洋音楽の楽曲が書かれた頃の スタイルや鍵盤楽器にあった音作り、体の動きも音楽の流れの中で 緊張と緩和といった自然な抑揚を生み出すために 不可欠な要素であることを体感させる点にある。 ’７０年より演奏活動の傍ら母校で後進の指導にあたり、 ’０１年ピアノ科主任教授に就任。 楽器との対話に優れ、内面的な響きを重視した音色に魅了されるファンは多い。 Barry Snyder was one of six pianists representing the American Liszt Society on a tour of China in Seatember1997, giving solo pianists and master classes. He presented the inaugural concert for the 1997-98 series in Kilbourn Hall,performing as part of a newly formed Trio with violinist Oleh Krysa andcellist Steven Doane. Later in the year Snyder gave a performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Alabama Symphony conducted by Mark Gibson. He also toured England, Taiwan, Beijing and Japan, giving master classes at Trinity College in London, at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, at the National Normal University of Taipei, and at Beijing Conservatry. During the same period of time he presented a number of solo recitals and chamber music recitals.
